"What's going to work? Team work!..."

These sweet faces are really mastering the skill of getting along, and working together. Last week Dallin (my little artist) had asked for the crayons. I told him "no" because he likes to color on walls, floors, bikes, books, people and basically anything he is not suppose to. We have a huge Tupperware bin of crayons that my mom has let the kids use. It has a snap on lid and was up on the desk. After I told Dallin "No", I walked away to start dinner. Pretty soon I hear Alyssa singing the song from Wonder Pets "What's going to work? Team work!" Her and Dallin were trying really hard to get the container off the desk, they succeeded (one held one side and the other held the other side) and then were sitting on the floor trying to get the lid off, which they did. I just love watching these two so much! They really do have a special bond between them. They love to talk, play and tease each other.
Last night, Alyssa had this blow up toy and she kept poking Dallin with it. He would try and grab it, and she would pull it away. They thought this was so much fun! They were both giggling. Alyssa decided to start holding it close to her body and rolling around the room, when Dallin would try and take it. Finally she got to close to the entertainment unit to go any further so Dallin laid over her and pinned her down...now that probably does not sound like fun for Alyssa, but they were both laughing hysterically.

Developmental Update:

Since I am doing a post on the two of them, I will go ahead and do a developmental update.
Since they were born premature, we were told to expect developmental delays such as, speech, fine motor, gross motor, sensory, muscle tone issues etc. The hospital they were born at has a developmental program, each baby that is born under a certain weight, is entered into this program. They are then followed every 6-9 months until they are 2 or 3. This past week they had a clinic appointment. During these appointments they are assessed for speech, muscle, and motor skills, and then they are also seen by a nurse and a social worker. To make a long story short, they were discharged from their program, because they have made such huge improvements and do not have significant delays. The nurse and social worker said they are poster children for how the Early Intervention services, through the hospital and the state are suppose to work. This was so nice to hear because it is a lot of time and work taking them to this appointment, or having this or that therapist out to the house. But it has been so worth it!!!
They will continue to have Occupational, Speech, Music, Physical and Play development therapies through the state's Early Intervention Program until they are completely caught up, or reach the age of 3, at which time we would have to change to the school district for therapies.
For those who do not know what the Early Intervention program is, it is a fantastic program that anyone can participate in, no matter how much or little your income. You can be self refereed, or referred by a physician. It is to help every child out there who has a delay get the help they need to progress. I found out about this program when Dallin was about 4 months old, and started showing some signs of CP (Cerebral Palsy). After going to the Dr and having to wait for a neurologist apt, and going to the developmental clinic. I contacted the Early Intervention program and started him into Physical Therapy, and play development. As more things have come up for both Dallin and Alyssa, they have added services and therapies to fit their needs
When people look at them, they cannot tell they have any delays, and that is and has been my goal. I want them to have every head start and advantage possible since they had a rough start into the world.
